Yamaha Factory Racing’s testing of their new YZR-M1 engine at the official test in Jerez on Monday (28/4/2025) produced impressive results. The new inline four-cylinder engine, rather than the V4 they are working on for the future, saw Fabio Quartararo set the fastest time (1:36.353) and Alex Rins follow closely behind (1:36.507) with this new unit, topping the provisional leaderboard. Quartararo expressed his satisfaction with the weekend’s performance, highlighting the exceptional speed they achieved without dropping below the top five, which he found very special. Describing the new unit, Quartararo praised its increased power output while maintaining standard agility. Despite Yamaha’s focus on the V4 project for the future, Quartararo remains positive about the potential of the inline 4 engine and its recent improvements. He emphasized the need for more races to evaluate their true position in the championship. Meanwhile, Rins also had a successful test day, pleased with the new engine’s performance and the tweaks they made to the chassis to enhance cornering stability. Both riders expressed optimism about the progress made by Yamaha and their potential to compete at the front of the pack in upcoming races.
