Indonesia and France have been celebrating more than seven decades of diplomatic relations since 1947. Recently, French President Emmanuel Macron received a grand state welcome during his visit to Jakarta. The grounds of Merdeka Palace were filled with approximately 3,000 students of all levels, adorned in neat attire and waving both Indonesian and French flags. The motorcade carrying President Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron traveled from Monas to the palace, amidst tight security, enhancing the ceremonial ambiance.

Upon arriving at Merdeka Palace, President Macron warmly greeted the students and was officially welcomed by President Prabowo Subianto. The two leaders then proceeded together to the ceremonial grounds, accompanied by the national anthems of both nations and a 21-gun salute. Inspecting the honor guard under the clear blue sky of Jakarta, Macron interacted with the enthusiastic students who were eagerly waving flags in the palace courtyard.

The ceremony was also attended by ministers from the Red and White Cabinet, alongside Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia included a visit to the Military Academy in Magelang and a trip to the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the cultural and educational bonds shared between the two countries. Following the grand welcome at the palace, both leaders engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to discuss various strategic partnerships, further strengthening the relationship between Indonesia and France.
