National Nutrition Agency (Badan Gizi Nasional, BGN) is pushing for the integration of nutrition education into Indonesia’s national school curriculum. The agency believes that by incorporating nutrition education from an early age, it will help create a generation of healthy, intelligent, and globally competitive Indonesians. According to Ikeu Tanziha, a member of BGN’s Nutrition Expert Council, nutrition education goes beyond just food; it lays the foundation for a child’s future health and critical thinking skills.
By introducing topics such as basic nutritional concepts, food group classification, and the importance of a balanced diet, students will not only gain knowledge but also practical skills like cooking and gardening. This, in turn, can lead to healthier lifestyle choices and a better understanding of the impact of nutrition on overall well-being.
BGN’s efforts also extend to educational initiatives such as social media outreach and promoting the Free Nutritious Meals Program through various platforms. The agency emphasizes the importance of collaboration from government bodies, schools, parents, media, and the wider public to support the integration of nutrition education into the school curriculum.
The ultimate goal is to create a synergistic relationship between schools, families, and communities, with the hope of realizing Indonesia’s Golden Generation 2045. By providing comprehensive nutrition education, BGN aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to lead healthy lives, prevent diseases, and enhance the overall quality of life in the future.
