President Prabowo Subianto has always shown a strong bond with farmers, as revealed by Dedek Prayudi, a Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO). This connection dates back to Prabowo’s time as a military officer, where he received assistance from local communities and farmers. Another significant moment was when he led the Indonesian Farmers Harmony Association (HKTI), according to Dedek, also known as Uki. The importance of this relationship was highlighted during the grand corn harvest for the Food Security Program in Jenggalu Village, Seluma Regency, Bengkulu Province, where President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka were present.
The Food Security Program is crucial in light of the global situation, urging Indonesia to reduce its dependence on foreign food supplies. With potential disruptions in major food-producing countries like India, Brazil, and China, Indonesia’s food security could be at risk. Uki emphasized the need for continued government support, including subsidized fertilizers, pesticides, and agricultural machinery, to boost cultivation and yields while motivating farmers. He encouraged the village head to streamline administrative processes for farmers to access subsidized fertilizers efficiently.
Kelik Budianan, Head of the Food Data and Information Center at the National Food Agency (Pusdatin Bapanas), expressed support for President Prabowo’s efforts. Collaboration with the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) is underway to absorb farmers’ corn harvests. The integration of farmers’ and livestock breeders’ supply chains is also being pursued to ensure favorable prices for crops, livestock feed, and livestock. This initiative received endorsement from local officials, representatives from Pupuk Indonesia, and the people of Jenggalu, aiming for increased production capacity and the well-being of farmers in the region.
