President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia has shown great enthusiasm for Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva’s initiative to bring hundreds of Brazilian entrepreneurs to Indonesia. This statement was made following a bilateral meeting between the two presidents at Palácio do Planalto in Brasília on July 9. Prabowo warmly welcomed the plan, believing that it could significantly enhance cooperation between the two nations, particularly in trade and investment. He emphasized the potential for real and concrete collaboration due to shared interests and abundant resources in both countries.
During the meeting, Prabowo highlighted the commonalities between Indonesia and Brazil, stressing the importance of strengthening economic ties given their large populations, natural resources, and biodiversity. He pointed out that previous cooperation agreements often remained on paper but expressed optimism about the current mutual interests that could truly benefit both nations. Prabowo also commended Brazil’s achievements in agriculture and bioenergy, expressing Indonesia’s eagerness to learn from Brazil’s expertise in these areas.
Furthermore, Prabowo appreciated President Lula’s support for Indonesia’s plan to send more technical teams to study Brazil’s innovations and agricultural technologies. This gesture of collaboration demonstrates the commitment to knowledge sharing and mutual learning between the two countries. Prabowo’s visit to Brazil, including participation in the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, further solidifies the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Brazil. President Lula is expected to reciprocate the visit by traveling to Indonesia in October, where Prabowo plans to organize a grand celebration for Lula’s upcoming 80th birthday.
