President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, emphasized the importance of the Merah Putih Village Cooperatives in improving the welfare of the people during the official launch of the program in Bentangan Village, Klaten. He stressed the need for strict monitoring to prevent any form of abuse, recalling past mistakes in the New Order era where cooperatives were joked about as ‘Chairman Profits First.’ President Prabowo highlighted the shift towards a more transparent and technologically-rooted cooperative system, where all financial flows can be monitored and audited in real-time. He called on village heads to actively supervise the cooperatives, emphasizing that the initiative belongs to the people and must serve the community. Using a metaphor of unity, he underscored the importance of cooperation in strengthening the economy of rural Indonesia and decentralizing resources. President Prabowo expressed his belief in redirecting funds from cities to regencies, districts, and villages, signaling a significant movement towards revitalizing the rural economy.
